The finishing touches around dental implants

I have written about gum shaping many times before as this is an area of implant dentistry that I am very passionate about. For my patients, this process is what makes the replacement implant tooth look so natural and mimic the adjacent teeth. For me, this is a very crucial part of our treatment that helps to determine the long term successes of this treatment.

It means a lot to me because it means a lot to our patients. Having dental implants look like real teeth is the pinnacle of a carefully crafted treatment plan that has been executed to the highest level over a period of a few months.

In this case from last week we placed a dental implant in the upper left lateral incisor region to replace the patient’s missing tooth. Over a period of 3 months, the patient wore a temporary implant crown which was fixed in place permanently. This crown was used to shape the gums to achieve the natural gum contours as seen in the pictures below.

Although the treatment takes 3 months to complete, our patients are able to have a fixed replacement tooth from day one therefore, in such cases it makes the whole treatment process very comfortable for the patient.

It is the fine details that makes all the difference…
