One of the most popular treatments amongst our patients is to have orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth. A straighter set of teeth is easier to clean, can be more aesthetic and provide our patients with confidence in their dental health and smile.
We have found that Invisalign is very popular amongst our patients and our dental team. The digital ClinCheck software enables the dentist to form simulations of the proposed treatment to straighten the teeth. A few simulations can be designed to show the patient the range of tooth movements that are possible to achieve their intended smile appearance. This ability to plan all of this before any active treatment has been performed on the patient is a significant benefit. The patient can visually see the smile designs using the ClinCheck software and can decide on their desired smile characteristics during the planning stages.
Once the desired smile has been selected, we are able to manufacture a series of clear aligners for the patient to wear. These are carefully made to progressively move the teeth into their pre-planned positions as selected on the ClinCheck. The aligners are easily removable for eating and cleaning.
Wearing the aligners is simple and once our patients have worn them for the first week they find that it becomes very comfortable to wear the aligners during their normal daily routine.
Upon completion of the treatment, which can take between 6-18 months, our patient’s teeth are whitened and recontoured to provide an aesthetic smile appearance. We always provide lifetime retention in the form of removable and/or fixed retainers to ensure our patient’s teeth remain straight in the future. Retention is crucial following orthodontic treatment otherwise relapse can be expected. It is important to note that retention is required following all types of orthodontic treatment, not just Invisalign.
