Photographs like the above were shown to a group of a 126 people with the same person showing an aesthetic smile and a non-aesthetic smile.

The studies and surveys have shown that an improved smile will have a significant effect your perceptions of a person’s:

  • Attractiveness
  • Career success
  • Intelligence
  • Friendlliness
  • Kindness

More likeable and approachable – aesthetic smile

2004 Penn State University study found that aesthetic smiles shared by employees in the customer service industry influenced their impressions on customers in a positive way. Smiling employees came across as more likeable and friendly, and customers left the interactions feeling more satisfied about their overall experience.

Influence your mood and those around you

Our facial expressions do more than just portray our mood, they also influence the way we feel. Recent studies have revealed that through the enhancement of positive emotions or the suppression of negative ones, using facial expressions, a person’s mood begins to align more strongly with the emotion his or her face is communicating.

Smile – attractiveness and trustworthiness

In a University of Pittsburgh study, researchers explored the potential connection between a person’s level of attractiveness, the intensity of their smile and their perceived level of trustworthiness. From a psychological perspective, a person who has an aesthetic smile appears more trustworthy.

The smile and teeth are at the top of the hierarchy of importance

A study by Gordon Patzer in 1996 demonstrated that the mouth is the most dominant feature of the face when measuring an individual’s physical attractiveness. People mostly look at the teeth first then the lips>eyes>nose in that order when they first look at an individual.

An aesthetic or cosmetic smile is an important feature on most people’s lives. We have many important features that we incorporate in to our smile designs for our patients to ensure that a natural and age appropriate smile is produced. having a ‘fake’ smile appearance can be just as bad, if not worse, than having no treatment in some cases. For this reason, natural looking aesthetic smiles are the key to achieving all of the benefits described in this blog.
