A journey from Canada for a life changing smile…

Posted on 2nd June 2022

We often talk about life changing dentistry and last week I was proud to have completed a monumental treatment plan for our patient.

Our patient attended the clinic wanting to restore his dental health. The health of his teeth had deteriorated over many years and this was causing him constant pain. His confidence in his smile was also affected. We started his treatment to replace all of his failing teeth with dental implants. As readers of my blog will know, this treatment usually takes on average 6 months to complete. Soon after starting his treatment, the patient had been given an opportunity to relocate to Canada with his family through his work. This was a life changing opportunity and one that the patient did not want to miss out on. He still wanted to have his treatment completed at our clinic with our team and was willing to travel back and forth from Canada to complete his treatment.

We made every effort to minimise the number of journeys for our patient, every visit to our clinic was a plane journey from Canada and back. We utilised digital designs and cad/cam to ensure the smile design was customised to fit perfectly within his mouth. We made every effort to meticulously plan and design this treatment to ensure we got it right the very first time. The patient made two journeys and four flights between the UK and Canada to have his treatment completed.

For the final visit he attended with his wife. When I fitted the final restorations it was an incredible moment for our patient, his wife and our team. I often see patients become overwhelmed with emotion, but this time even I became overwhelmed. I tried to put myself in his shoes, to travel all the way from Canada whilst starting a new life and new career in a new country, and also having major dental treatment carried out. Our patient had been through so much and I was in awe of his strength and committment. I am so happy for him. We are all so grateful that he put his trust and faith in our team.

The patient was looking forward to starting his career and life in Canada with no toothache and a smile he can be very confident with!

It’s not everyday that a patient travels that far and I am proud that we have given him the smile he deserves.

Truly life changing? Surely…
