Some patient journeys stay with you long after treatment is complete – not just because of the clinical complexity, but because of the determination, trust and resilience shown along the way. This is one of those stories.
Our patient first presented to us after travelling 90 minutes by taxi from Lancashire – a journey she made for every single appointment. Living with Parkinson’s disease, travelling is not easy, yet she attended patiently and consistently. From the very beginning, we knew we had a responsibility to live up to that commitment and be truly worth the journey.
How It All Began
When she initially came to see us, she had been struggling for some time. She wore a full upper denture, had no natural teeth remaining in the upper arch, and her few remaining lower teeth were supported by bridges. Unfortunately, the lower arch had always been sensitive and uncomfortable, and she had suffered from recurrent abscesses. Her own dentist had previously managed this by temporising the bridge, which gave some short-term relief, but it was clear this was not a long-term solution. Despite this, the pain persisted, and her quality of life continued to suffer.
Importantly, she had previously been told that dental implants were not an option for her, which was understandably disheartening.
Finding Us and Seeking the Best Care
Still searching for answers, she found us online while researching dental implants. Her goal was clear: she wanted to see the best specialist possible and explore whether there was a solution she hadn’t yet been offered. Now retired, and with a love for gardening, she wanted teeth that would allow her to enjoy everyday life again – comfortably and confidently.
Despite the challenges, we were able to look beyond what she had previously been told and consider a more advanced solution.
The Treatment Plan
Following a detailed assessment and planning process, we recommended:
Complete upper and lower fixed full-arch replacement using dental implants, supported by advanced implant techniques and bone grafting where required.
This would allow her to move away from removable dentures and failing bridges, replacing them with fixed teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.
The Outcome
Today, we are delighted to say that she now has a successful upper and lower fixed set of teeth supported by dental implants. Pain has been resolved, infection addressed, and function restored. The transformation – both clinically and personally – has been incredibly rewarding to witness.
Best of all, her treatment was fully completed just in time for Christmas and the New Year – a milestone moment that made the result even more special.
We were also deeply touched to receive a lovely Christmas card and heartfelt thanks from her, which meant a great deal to the entire team.
This case is a powerful reminder that being told “it’s not possible” doesn’t always mean the end of the road. With the right expertise, planning and commitment from both patient and team, life-changing outcomes are achievable.
We couldn’t be happier for her – and we’re honoured to have been part of her journey.
