Towards the end of 2022, I had the pleasure of meeting Brenda, a new patient facing some dental challenges. Brenda had recently lost a bridge that had been replacing her upper teeth, and she was struggling with a loose lower denture to replace some missing lower teeth. Following a comprehensive examination, a special CT scan, and an in-depth discussion of her options, Brenda made the decision to proceed with an implant-retained denture. I knew this would meet her goals to be able to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
After Brenda’s implant surgery, the next step was crafting her new set of teeth. I knew Brenda was eager for a a natural-looking outcome, so I encouraged her to bring in some old photographs from her younger years when she still had her natural teeth. These pictures revealed Brenda’s unique smile, including a gap between her front teeth and slightly forward-positioned upper teeth. Whilst many patients want to have a flawless “Hollywood” smile, there are situations where replicating a more natural smile is the best course of action, and Brenda wholeheartedly agreed with this.
Together with other members of the dental team, including my dental nurse, and my skilled dental technician, we studied these photographs and started recreating teeth that closely resembled Brenda’s original natural ones. We experimented with various options, providing Brenda with a chance to see and choose the appearance that she felt were right for her. This process ensured that Brenda was confident her final smile was going to be perfect, and also got us excited for the end result.
Fast forward six months from our initial meeting, and Brenda was delighted to receive her brand-new teeth, and after some final checks, she was ready to go and enjoy her holiday.
Implant-retained dentures often provide many advantages over traditional dentures. They do not require messy denture adhesive, are much more comfortable and securely “click” into place. Additionally, these dentures do not cover the full roof of the mouth, allowing you to taste your food better, and don’t trigger a gag reflex.
If you’re considering implant-retained dentures, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help you regain your confidence along with a comfortable, natural-looking smile.
