Most patients with failing teeth struggle to chew properly and also with the confidence in their smile. We completed the treatment for the following 2 patients this week and they both had similar problems when they first attended our clinic. A lack of healthy teeth and a lack of confidence in their smiles had led them both to avoid pursuing dental care on a regular basis. The problems became gradually worse and they learned to adapt to their problems by smiling less and eating only the foods they could chew. So when we offered them a solution to eliminate all of these problems and give them back a fully functional smile you can imagine what that meant to both of these patients!
As with all major implant treatment – the process starts with a carefully judged plan conducted by our team of experienced implant dentists. The journey can take 6 months on average and along the way the patients always have temporary teeth to wear. The major parts of the treatment were provided under sedation to ensure the patient’s were treated in the most relaxed and pain free manner as is possible. When we fitted these final teeth the patient’s were delighted. One of them had tears in her eye and I was glad to confirm with her that they were tears of happiness. The realisation that you can smile with confidence for the first time in decades and eat all the foods you have subconsciously avoided for many years can be an emotional experience. It is a truly momentous occasion for everyone involved in the care for our patients because we can see the sudden improvements made to the day-today lives of our patients following this kind of treatment.
I have been privilieged to have led our team for many years providing the highest level of care for those who desperately need it to improve their lives. Despite having treated thousands of patients – it always feels like the first time when I see how much it means to our patients at the end of their treatment. It is truly life changing!
