Attention to detail – the difference between something good and something great

Posted on 10th February 2019

I write many blogs about how dental implants can transform patients dental health significantly. I often write about the big cases where patients come to see me with no teeth, wanting a full transformation to replace all of their teeth.

Dental implants however, can also be used to replace single missing teeth, in amongst a healthy set of natural teeth. In many ways, this is the truest test of the ability of a dental implant; to function like a real tooth. This is because, once they are placed next to natural teeth, any discrepancies between the real teeth and the implant tooth will be very noticeable.

The patient shown below is a young girl in her 20’s. She has a dental condition called hypodontia. This results in her missing her lateral incisor teeth from birth. As can be seen from the ‘before’ image below, she has superb dental health and hygiene. Her biggest and only concern with her teeth was the missing lateral incisors.

Our aim wasn’t to transform her smile. Why would we want to do this when her existing teeth look perfect? Our aim was to provide her with lateral incisor teeth that would fit into her smile and appear as beautiful and natural as her neighbouring teeth. With the correct treatment protocol and skill, dental implants are the most effective solution to treating hypodontia.

The level of skill and attention to detail required by both our surgical team and technical design team is very high. Results like below cannot be achieved with anything other than the highest quality implants and ceramics in the hands of expert professionals. I am very proud of these results we have achieved and continue to produce.

Our recent blog on GUM SHAPING demonstrates how we carefully contour the gums around dental implants in such a way that they mimic the natural gum contours found around real teeth. It is this level of attention to detail that makes all the difference.
