Bone Loss to Bright Smiles

At our practice, helping patients regain their smiles and confidence is more than just a job – it’s a passion. One recent case has reminded me of why I love what I do. A patient came to us after struggling for years without teeth in his upper right jaw. He’d lost those teeth due to infection, and the bone in the area had deteriorated significantly, making it impossible to place implants without additional treatment.

But where others might have seen a dead end, we saw an opportunity to give him back his smile – and his quality of life.

The Challenge: Restoring What Was Lost

This patient had been living without teeth in his upper right jaw for years, unable to enjoy the foods he loved or smile with confidence. Before losing the teeth, he’d dealt with infection in the area, which unfortunately contributed to the significant bone loss. Without enough bone, placing dental implants – a solution he desperately wanted – was not possible.

When I sat with him to discuss his options, I could see the frustration and sadness this had caused him over the years. I was determined to help him, no matter how complex the challenge.

The Solution: Sinus Lift Bone Grafting

To address the lack of bone, we performed a sinus lift bone grafting procedure, a sophisticated technique designed to regenerate bone in areas where it has been lost.

The process involves carefully lifting the sinus membrane and placing a bone graft to encourage new bone growth. Over the months, the graft integrated beautifully, and the results were extraordinary. We went from virtually no bone (0mm) to achieving a bone height of over 13mm – more than enough to support a 10mm-long dental implant and the teeth above it.

The accompanying images highlight the dramatic improvement in bone volume. This incredible transformation made it possible to move forward with placing the implants.

The Result: A Confident Smile Restored

With a strong foundation in place, we were finally able to place the dental implants, giving him permanent, secure teeth. The results speak for themselves:

• He can now eat comfortably, enjoying meals without hesitation.
• His smile is restored, and the confidence that comes with it has been life-changing.
• Most importantly, he knows this solution is durable and long-lasting, giving him peace of mind for the future.

Seeing his reaction when he realised he could eat and smile with full confidence we very rewarding for myself.
