This young man came to see me not long ago, and I’ve been thinking about him ever since.
He was still at university, bright, polite, a little quiet at first. He’d been wearing a denture since his early teens, his front teeth were lost in a childhood accident, and he’d carried that burden through some of the most formative years of his life. Smiling cautiously, avoiding certain foods, always conscious of what was in his mouth.
He said to me, “I want to move on from this.” And I knew we could help him.
We planned a treatment that would give him his front teeth back, permanently. Two carefully placed Straumann dental implants would support four new incisor teeth, natural-looking, secure, and built to last. The result? A smile that was finally his again. No plastic plate to take out. No awkward bite. Just teeth.
He travelled down from Lincolnshire for every appointment, and every time, his mum came with him. You could see how much it meant to both of them. This wasn’t just about teeth, it was about freedom, confidence, and letting go of something that had hung over him for years.
When we completed treatment, he said it had been life changing. He said it meant more than he could explain, to eat, speak, and smile without thinking about his denture. And then he laughed and said, “I don’t miss the denture!”
Obviously.
Now he can focus on his final year at university without that weight in the back of his mind. He can smile for photos, he can go out, meet people, live his life, without second-guessing himself.
This is why we do what we do. It’s not just about replacing teeth, it’s about giving people a part of themselves back.
