By the age of 44, 69% of adults in the UK have already lost at least one tooth. By the time they reach 50 years of age, the average number of missing teeth is 12, and by the age of 64, 6% of adults have lost all of their teeth.
This issue affects many people throughout their lives, with varying degrees of tooth loss ranging from one, to multiple, to a whole set. It can have a detrimental impact on one‘s health, quality of life, and wellbeing.
Periodontal disease is a leading cause of tooth loss and is found in two–thirds of adults in the UK. It is a condition that causes the loss of the supporting gums and bones around the teeth, leading to a wobbly tooth and, eventually, tooth loss. Our patients at Infinity Dental Clinic are all Denplan members, meaning they receive regular preventative care to minimise the risks posed by periodontal disease.
In cases where replacement teeth are necessary, we always treat the root cause of the loss of teeth. Placing a dental implant in a patient with weak gums and bone will not provide a long–term solution. To provide our dental implants with the necessary healthy support, we perform gum and bone grafts. This procedure involves thickening and adding volume to the thin and weak gums, as well as improving the integrity of the bone around the replacement teeth. It means that we are not just replacing missing teeth, but we are also replacing missing gums and missing bone at the same time.
At Infinity Dental Clinic, we are committed to providing long–term treatments and outcomes for our patients. Gum and bone grafts are just one of the ways in which we can ensure successful and lasting results.
