Not everyone has to go for the bright white smile…

Posted on 27th July 2024

We treat thousands of patients at Infinity Dental Clinic and it comes with no surprise that most patients request a ‘white’ smile. For many, this is their idea of improving their own smile and the confidence they hope to get from this new smile is enhanced by the whiter shade.

For a number of patient however, a white smile is not what they want. Their idea of restoring confidence is to restore the absolute natural aspects of their own teeth. This includes the natural staining and chips and wear facets. They don’t want perfect instead, the deem natural imprefections as being ‘perfect’ for them.

At Infinity Dental Clinic we take great pride in providing both types of treatments for our patients. Ultimately, it is our patient that decides what they want and we are able to provide the correct skills and techniques in-house to achieve that for them.

This particular patient wanted be to replace her missing upper right central incisor to mirror her own upper left central incisor. She didn’t want me to whiten her own teeth or make everything look more ‘perfect’. Instead, she came to see our team because she wanted a truly ‘natural’ tooth replacement.

We provided her with a Straumann Dental Implant and then fitted a custom made crown to this implant. The crown was customised to mimic every little detail inherent on her own teeth – just like she requested.

The different shades of brown marks on her teeth are not stains or plaque, they are in fact enamel hypomineralisation marks left on her teeth from when she was a child. During tooth development, certain conditions can affect the teeth and has a lasting effect on their long term appearance in adult life. We can provide treatment to mask the appearance of these teeth and make them look ‘white’ however, as stated in this blog, for some people including this patient, conforming to her natural smile was what made her more confident in her own self.

The end result was one where she has a replacement tooth that is almost impossible to tell apart from her own teeth.

Is this the idea of a perfect smile? It’s certainly a ‘natural’ smile!
