Removing the sense of anxiety from dentistry – Sedation

Posted on 17th March 2019

For many patients dental treatment causes a sense of anxiety. In some cases this is so severe that it is the reason why they may put off dental care altogether.

We have seen many patients at our clinic who have had such a negative experience with previous dental treatment that they have put off visiting the dentist for many years, sometimes for their entire lives!

At our clinic we try our best to give patients a more pleasant experience so that they are able to have the treatments they need in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Using Intra-Venous Sedation we are able to provide our patients all of their treatments in a pain free and relaxed manner. The sedation session provides a level of amnesia and relaxation that means our patients will have little or no recollection of the operative procedures therefore, they will not be taking any bad memories of dental care away with them.

Sedation is not necessary for all patients however, for those patients who have put off dental care due to a sense of dental anxiety, sedation is the golden ticket to providing optimum dental care in these individuals. Dr Hannah Wilson is our lead sedationist and has provided this treatment to many of our patients enabling them to restore their dental health and, as a result, improve their quality of life. It gives me such a great sense of satisfaction to see these patients a few months later looking forward to coming to see us at the dental practice. These are the same patients who hadn’t seen a dentist for decades due to anxiety and now they are seeing us regularly with big smiles!
