It’s such a privilege to watch each patient’s transformation, and this week we completed a really special one.
A lot has changed for Mike since we started his Invisalign journey… and this week we wrapped it up just in time before he sets off on his biggest challenge yet.
Mike first came to me unhappy and self-conscious with his smile. He’d been meaning to straighten his teeth for years, but now was the time. He lacked confidence, often hiding his smile in photos and in person. What he really wanted was a straight, white smile—and he was determined to get it, even if that meant traveling all the way from Hull… and eventually, from different corners of the world! No matter where he was, he always made the journey back to continue treatment, telling me we were “worth the trip” to get the smile and confidence he’d dreamed of.
The transformation, of course, is never just about teeth.
Since starting his Invisalign treatment, Mike’s achievements have been nothing short of incredible. Tragically, two of his close friends were diagnosed with MND (Motor Neurone Disease), and Mike has since made it his mission to raise awareness and money to support their families and fund vital research.
As his smile improved, so did his confidence – especially on camera. That confidence gave him the extra push to get out there, speak up and make a difference. It’s been amazing to play even a small part in his journey. Today, Mike is completely at ease appearing in TV news stories, attending award ceremonies, and sharing his challenges on social media—all for a great cause.
Check out his Instagram @mikeyhumph to see what I mean. Here are just a few of the wild and inspiring things he’s done:
• Run 30 marathons in 30 days across 30 countries
• Run the Paris Marathon in ski boots
• Climb snowy Scafell Pike wearing nothing but speedos and flip flops
• Run a scorching-hot marathon in Cyprus… in a ski suit
Yes, really.
We finished his Invisalign treatment just in time for his latest adventure—running the entire distance of South America.
One of the best parts of Invisalign is the flexibility it gives both patients and clinicians. Even though Mike was often halfway around the world, we made it work. And we achieved an incredible result. He’s delighted, and very generously credits his improved smile with giving him the confidence to film and share all these challenges publicly.
As for me, I’ve loved getting to know Mike. I love getting to know all my patients. Each one leaves their own impression, and I’m always inspired by the journeys they’re on – big or small.
