What is truly bespoke?

We see bright white smiles being advertised all over the internet. Many of our own patients have treatment with our team to achieve a ‘bright white smile’.

But not everyone wants that. Some people just want their teeth to look a ‘normal natural colour’. Everyone’s teeth has a slightly different shade to them so we work hard to mimic this for each patient too!

Sometimes our patients have an even more bespoke request. This particular patient had lost his upper incisor teeth many years ago. He finally decided that now was the time to have dental implants to replace his missing teeth and restore his smile. Having left the area without teeth for so many years, our patient had experienced advanced bone loss. Our CBCT scan assessment showed that he would require a large bone graft to be able to have dental implants however, it was still possible to achieve this treatment for him because he hadn’t left it too late!

Once I had successfully provided our patient with 2 dental implants and a bone graft he then had one more personal request – a very unique one! He wanted me to make his 3 replacement teeth out of gold! Now gold is actually one of the best materials to place in the mouth as it adapts almost perfectly with your own teeth and exhibits properties that enable it to adapt comfortably with your own biting pressures. Despite this, it is rare for a patient to request this however, at our clinic we look forward to providing each of our patients with the unique care and smiles they deserve.

We worked closely with the dental technical team led by Phil Reddington. His experience in dental materials science meant we could source pure gold for our patient and adapt it to conform to his natural dental anatomy. This truly was a unique prostheses designed for our patient. He was delighted and so were we. He truly has a unique and bespoke smile!

This isn’t a smile for everyone, we know that and most of our patients would not want this. Tailoring to our patient’s individual needs is what we do best and for that reason, this is a smile as good as any!
