This patient first came to see us after having an implant placed back in 2018 at a different dental clinic. She had been living with it ok for years, but more recently she became concerned. A few weeks before her visit, the area started to hurt, the crown felt loose, and she could no longer eat on it.
She had already seen another dentist, who delivered difficult news and confirmed what she was starting to fear. There was severe bone loss around the implant, and she was advised to seek out a clinician with advanced experience in implant dentistry. That’s what led her to Infinity Dental Clinic.
After a full assessment, including a CBCT scan, the problem became clear. The lower left implant was mobile, and the scan showed severe, almost complete bone loss around it. At this advanced stage, saving the implant wasn’t an option. The treatment required was complex and involved removing the failing implant, rebuilding the lost bone, and restoring the gum tissue with a connective tissue graft.
This was not an easy situation, especially for such a young patient. The lower front teeth are not something you can hide, and the thought of being without them is understandably distressing. Knowing how important this was to her, we were committed to doing everything possible to restore both function and confidence.
The treatment plan involved placing two implants to support four teeth in the lower front region, along with bone augmentation and a connective tissue graft for the four lower incisors. It was a complex process, but one that was carefully planned and carried out step by step.
The final result made all the effort worthwhile. The improvement in bone volume was significant. With her lip in a natural talking or smiling position, you would never know the extent of the work that was done. The dental laboratory matched the teeth beautifully. They are well aligned, natural in shape, and an excellent colour match with the surrounding teeth.
Cases like this don’t always start with good news. Even when it feels like all is lost, there is often still a way forward with the right approach, experience, and teamwork. I’m delighted we were able to complete this treatment in time for the new year and help this lovely patient move forward with confidence.
