Why Sedation Dentistry is a Game-Changer for Nervous Patients

Posted on 11th July 2025

At Infinity Dental Clinic, we see every week just how powerful it can be when a patient overcomes their fear of dentistry. Many of the patients we help have avoided the dentist for years, not because they didn’t want treatment, but because they were too anxious or frightened. Often, it’s that very fear that has led to their teeth deteriorating to the point where complex care, such as dental implants, becomes necessary.

That’s why we’re so proud to offer a calm, understanding environment supported by IV dental sedation. It’s this unique combination of advanced dental implant care, compassionate sedation team and genuine empathy that brings patients to us from all over the UK.

Just this week, we treated a lovely lady who travelled all the way from Carlisle by taxi for her dental implant treatment under sedation. She had done her research, knew the level of care we provide, and decided it was worth the journey.

When she first arrived, she was understandably a bag of nerves — admitting her blood pressure was probably through the roof! She had been fearing the worst and losing sleep in the lead-up to the appointment. Like many patients, she’d put off treatment for years due to past bad experiences.

But everything changed once Dr Hannah Wilson administered IV sedation. The procedure itself couldn’t have gone more smoothly. One of the remarkable benefits of sedation is how time seems to pass incredibly quickly — the patient joked afterwards that the appointment felt like it flew by. She was even able to catch up on some rest, after a sleepless, anxious night before.

After the procedure, she was like a different person. Calm, relieved, and genuinely surprised at how easy it had all felt, stating she didn’t feel a thing. She said it was completely comfortable and unlike experiences she’d had in the past — “That was absolutely fine, nothing to worry about!” she said.

These moments mean a great deal to our team. We see how much courage it takes for patients to walk through our doors, especially after years of fear or avoidance. To be able to change someone’s perception of dentistry — and help them take back control of their oral health — is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

For this lady, the hardest part is now behind her. In a few months’ time, she’ll be enjoying her brand new smile, and we couldn’t be happier for her.

If fear or anxiety is holding you back from seeking the treatment you need — whether it’s a single implant or full-mouth restoration — please don’t hesitate to reach out. With the right support and expert care, things really can be different.
