An implant bridge to restore this smile – 2 implants with 4 teeth

This patient attended our clinic with a failing conventional dental bridge. His exisitng bridge was supported by 2 of his exisitng teeth and spanned the area of the UR1-UL1-UL2 and UL3.

He bridge kept coming off as his teeth continued to weaken and fail. In the end he was managing to just stick it in with dental glue and try not to bite on it so that he could last the whole day with some sort of a smile. It was a desperate situation that was causing him a lot of anxiety. The thought of losing the bridge and having to wear a removable denture was also causing him a lot of anguish. He really didn’t want to wear removable teeth as this would hamper his confidence in eating, speaking and smiling.

We provided this patient with a thorough assessment and 3-D CBCT scan to plan the optimum solution. By providing 2 dental implants in the UR1 and UL3 sites we could then fit a 4-unit implant supported bridge to fully restore his 4 missing/failing teeth. This option would also enable him to be able to bite into anything with full force once again.

The patient was delighted to have this option available and din’t hesitate to commence this treatment.

Once we started this treatment he also confessed that, although he had been wearing his exisitng bridge for over 5 years, he was never truly satisfied with the aesthetics of this bridge. He felt the colour and shape of the teeth did not match his existing adjacent teeth. We took note of this and ressured him that our implant supported teeth would perfectly match his own teeth and meet his expectations.

As you can see from the pictures, the existing bridge was indeed not a perfect match to his own teeth. The radiograph image shows how we place 2 parallel dental implants in the UR1 and UL3 sites to fit the naturally aesthethic and fully functional bridge shown in the lower image. This treatment has fully restored this patient’s smile – even better than it was when his bridge was fitted 5 years ago. He stated that he was delighted with the outcome and wished he had had this treatment sooner! He suffered with the failing bridge for so long and if he had known how simple and effective implant treatment was then he would not have delayed commencing treatment.
