Fixed Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth

Dental Implant to replace upper central incisor, Leeds Infinity Dental Clinic

Dental Implants are the nearest tooth replacement to your own natural teeth teeth. They provide an excellent solution if you have lost, or are about to lose any of your teeth and also if you are suffering with loose dentures. Traditional dentures can often be loose and may not provide the function or appearance of your natural teeth. With Dental Implants there is no need to compromise – you will have permanent teeth that are fixed in place and do not need to be removed from the mouth. You will be able to bite, chew, speak and laugh as you did with your natural teeth.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental Implant replacement for missing tooth

A dental implant is made up of 2 main sections. An artificial titanium tooth ‘root’ and an aesthetic ceramic crown. This not only results in the appearance and function of a natural tooth, but will also help preserve the underlying bone structure, reducing further bone loss. In addition, dental implants are ‘stand alone’ and do not risk damage the neighbouring teeth as can happen with partial dentures or bridges.

What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Compared to alternative options, dental implants not only look natural, but function like your own teeth. It is even possible to replace all your teeth with a full mouth of fixed dental implants, or an implant retained denture. The benefits of having Dental Implants include:

  • Replace loose dentures
  • Maintain your bone structure following tooth loss
  • Function and feel like natural teeth
  • Improve the appearance of your smile
  • Improve chewing and speaking
  • Preserves the health of adjacent and surrounding teeth
  • Provides a long term permanent solution
  • Dental Implants at Infinity Dental Clinic have a very high success rate

Replacing missing teeth is important in order to keep your teeth, gums and jawbone healthy. A face without teeth can lose its shape and started to look aged. Dental Implants help to retain your natural face structure and shape, which can greatly boost your confidence and even make you look younger.

Dental Implant Infinity Dental Clinic Leeds yorkshireMany of our patients describe their dental implants as being even better than their original teeth, and feel they are in their strongest and healthiest state. They are delighted to bite down on a steak for the first time in years, or to enjoy a refreshingly cool ice cream free from the fear of triggering an ache from sensitive teeth. On the whole, getting Dental Implants will enable you to enjoy your life, and the pleasures of a good meal once more.

Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth

multiple dental implants

We can use Dental Implants to replace one or several adjacent missing teeth. Larger gaps created by two, three or more missing teeth do not necessarily need an Implant per tooth. We can fit three or four teeth on a bridge supported by two Dental Implants. The exact number of Dental Implants required will depend on the results of your consultation with our Implant surgeon. Read our blog on how we can replace 2 teeth with 1 dental implant by clicking this link.

Am I Suitable for Dental Implants?

dental implants to replace missing upper teeth Most adults in good general health will be suitable for Dental Implant treatment. Your Implant consultation will include a medical history, thorough clinical examination, photographs, a digital intra-oral scan and x-rays. We may also take a digital CT scan of your mouth for anatomical assessment using our in house CBCT scanner.

From the assessment, the implant surgeon will calculate the optimum size and position of your Dental Implant. If this demonstrates that the underlying bone is deficient, a simple bone regeneration procedure will be required.

We understand that all cases are different, so if you have any questions please contact our treatment coordinator for a complimentary consultation.

What is a Bone Regeneration Procedure?

Bone regeneration involving grafting to repair boneIn most cases this is a routine procedure carried out alongside Dental Implant placement. It involves simply adding bone graft material around the implant, to ‘bulk out’ the underlying bone. This repairs any bone damage caused due to infection, gum disease, trauma or extraction. We use leading bioactive bone graft materials which improve your bone quality and density, allowing for better ‘anchorage’ of your dental implant.

MANUFACTURE OF BESPOKE SURGICAL STENT: A scan of your mouth may be taken and used to manufacture a bespoke surgical ‘guide’. This may be required to ensure that each individual implant is carefully placed in the optimum position.

IMPLANT PLACEMENT: Dental Implant placement is a minor oral surgery procedure, performed under the same Local Anaesthesia used in routine dental treatments. We can alternatively provide the treatment using sedation if you are anxious about the appointment. The Implant is placed into the bone replicating the tooth root. If bone regeneration was planned at the consultation stage then this is usually done at the same time as the Dental Implant placement. The area is then closed and the implant is allowed to integrate. If required, you will leave with a replacement temporary tooth where the Dental Implant has been placed.

IMPLANT INTEGRATION: Dental Implants can take between 6 weeks and 3 months to integrate or ‘bond’ with the underlying bone. You should expect to feel little or no pain during this period.

IMPLANT RESTORATION: Once the Dental Implant has integrated, it is ready to have the crown fitted. We are one of only a few dental practices in the UK to provide the latest Digital Dental techniques enabling us to perform Dentistry with optimum precision. Our in house Digital Scanners allows us to provide the highest standards in restorative Implant Dentistry at our clinic.

Dental implant Leeds Infinity Dental ClinicWe work with experienced dental technicians, who specialise in making natural looking teeth for Dental Implants. The new implant supported teeth will be made to blend in naturally with the rest of your teeth. The ‘tooth’ is simply screwed into the Implant.

Gum Shaping Around Dental Implants.

At Infinity Dental Clinic we believe that Dental Implants must look and function like natural teeth. We provide our patients with the highest standards of aesthetic techniques to ensure that the implant teeth mimic natural teeth in every way.

The gum and soft tissues around the Dental Implant needs to be carefully manipulated to provide a similar contour to that seen on the adjacent teeth. Rather than simply accepting a compromised result, in these cases we provide our patients with a prototype Dental Implant restoration. This looks and feels almost as good as the final tooth, which is great for patients as it means they are able to have a replacement tooth very early on in their overall treatment process.

Gum shaping with dental implant at Infinity Dental Clinic Leeds

In this picture, composite has been added over staged appointments to develop a similar gum contour to the adjacent tooth. The ‘before’ image shows how the tooth appeared more square and shorter in the absence of gum shaping. Therefore, regardless of how good the ceramic work is, the tooth would never look symmetrical if it was left like this.

The final outcome in these cases shows a gum contour which is very close to the natural adjacent tooth.

This is the true test of a replacement tooth – to look exactly like it’s neighbouring tooth.

For more detailed information on how we perform the art of gum shaping at our clinic, please have a look at our detailed blog on this topic by clicking this text.

How Long Does it Take?

At Infinity Dental Clinic we understand that your time is valuable, and so we aim to complete it an as timely manner as possible. Dental implant treatment on average will take 3 months to complete.

We also understand that no one wants to spend time with a ‘gap’, therefore, we are able to provide tooth replacement solutions from day one.

Is Dental Implant Treatment Painful?

Dental Implant treatment is carried out under local anaestheia and so we will ensure that you will not be able to feel any pain throughout the appointment. There are no nerves, unlike when treating teeth, and so many patients find it a lot more comfortable than other dental treatments. If patients are worried about the procedure, it can also be carried out under sedation. We will be there for you through every step of the way.

“I have just completed my course of treatment to replace a front tooth and crown with a full implant. I am absolutely over the moon with the results, and after 30+years of having a crown, I can 100% say I have got my smile back.
The whole team at Infinity are very friendly, and welcoming and carefully take you through each step of the treatment fully explaining what will be happening next so that there are no doubts or fears.
At the end of my treatment Dr Patel suggested a further potential to properly shape the gum before the implants final fit. Although this added another 2 weeks to the treatment time, the results are stunning. My smile is once again 100% symmetrical and no one would ever know about my treatment having taken place. I recommend this extra step to anyone thinking about having an implant.
I cannot thank Jasmine, Sophie and Dr Patel …as well as the rest of the staff at Infinity for all their kind help and assistance over my course. I will definitely be recommending the team at Infinity Dental to anyone wishing to receive a treatment. Fantastic service with awesome results!!. Thank you all.”Dave Mortimer
