Did you know – Braces are no longer only for teenagers!

Posted on 9th January 2022

The patient base we are seeing opting to go ahead with Invisalign orthodontic treatment has changed massively over the years. We now have many patients who are realising it is not too late and that they don’t have to put up with being unhappy about their smile! Many patients either declined braces when they were younger, or were simply not offered orthodontic treatment at the time, and so have always hated their teeth. Therefore, now as adults, they feel the time is right to straighten their teeth and finally be comfortable in their smile. We even have patients in their 70s who can admit they are now able to stop hiding their teeth when they laugh and smile, and it is such a lovely feeling to be part of that transformation.

Invisalign – Not only for teenagers

Many patients have historically been put off straightening their teeth due the embarrassment of the ‘metal train track’ braces. With the advancement in Invisalign clear aligners, the option of having braces as an adult has become much more appealing. The aligners are virtually invisible, meaning you can continue with normal daily life, without feeling self conscious about your teeth. They are removed when eating, which also eliminates the worry of getting bits of food stuck in the wires and brackets.

Why now?

In the age of ‘selfies’, ‘Facetime’ and ‘Zoom’ calls, many of our patients have been reporting that they have become more aware of their teeth than ever. These digital platforms have made it even more difficult to avoid showing your teeth. Therefore, after years of covering their mouth or avoiding smiling, may of our patients have decided the time is now to do something about it and finally become comfortable and happy with their smile.

Why Invisalign?

Invisalign orthodontics uses a series of clear aligners to safely and predictably move the teeth in to the desired position. It is planned digitally, so the movements are precisely designed to achieve the ideal smile design. The 3D virtual simulation also allows our patients to visualise the outcome before even starting the treatment. It certainly helps with motivation when they see the perfect smile they will end up with!

Who can be treated with Invisalign?

A consultation will allow us to advise you regarding the suitability and timeframe of treatment, though Invisalign can treat a wide range of dental malocclusions including:

  • Crowding
  • Spacing
  • Narrow arch
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Open bite
  • Crooked teeth

If you have spent many years covering your teeth when you smile or avoiding appearing in photographs due to being unhappy with your teeth – find out what can be done to help at Infinity Dental Clinic!
